What is a generic medicine?


A medical product that is identical to a brand name medical product in dosage form, safety, strength, route of administration, quality, performance characteristics.

According to guidelines of FDA (Food and Drug Administration), generic medical products are chemically equivalent to a brand name drug, although minor differences such as colour or types of salts or esters are present.
